Disney with Little Ones: Fall Fun at Home

12079839_10101848607632554_779886855405945696_oNow that it’s October, it feels like fall is really in full swing. With our most recent trip 5 months behind us, we are definitely all missing Walt Disney World. Our next trip will take place in the fall and Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party is going to be at the top of our to-do list. Since that’s not happening this year, we have to come up with creative ways to keep the magic alive while we’re over a thousand miles away from Mickey and all of his fun festivities.

My little boys entertain me daily when they use their big, bright imaginations to play out story after story. I print off Disney character coloring sheets and they color while talking out little scenes. We listen to the Fantasmic! soundtrack over and over and they set up all their souvenir villain figures that we purchased during their first trip to Walt Disney World. Sorcerer Mickey always prevails. My kids love playing dress-up too, whether it’s Star Wars characters, super heroes, Woody and Buzz, or other Disney classics.

A growing supply of Disney Halloween costumes provides inspiration for their stories. It’s not unusual to have a whole host of different characters running through the halls of our home over the course of one day. Our neighbors never know who will be playing outside from day to day or what character might show up on their doorstep on Halloween night. Their little Disney addictions only serve to feed my own and get us all excited for our next trip to Disney World.

I would love to be in Walt Disney World this autumn to see it decked out with fall foliage and pumpkins everywhere, but instead we’ll have to carve some Disney-inspired pumpkins of our own. We’ll keep coloring, dressing up, creating our own stories, reading books, and watching Disney movies to keep the magic alive.

Candice was raised in east Tennessee. While in college, her best friend dragged her to a Walt Disney World College Program recruiting session at the University of Tennessee and the rest is Disney history. In the Fall of 1999, Candice became a quick service food hostess for Sunset Ranch Market and Fantasmic at Disney-MGM Studios – or what is now known as Disney’s Hollywood Studios. While soaking up her time as a cast member, she met Ryan, a neighbor and a fellow college programmer who worked as a custodial host at Epcot. Four years later, Candice moved to the Midwest and married that boy from across the hall. They now live in Greenwood, Indiana with their two little boys. The Disney-loving foursome took their first family trip to The Happiest Place on Earth in 2013 and Candice is eagerly planning their return. Candice also works full-time at a community mental health center and enjoys taking photographs and blogging at Mommy in the Midwest.
